Murphy Martin Gametime Audio Recordings

Before becoming a nationally known reporter and the voice of the Dallas Cowboys, Murphy Martin worked in Angelina County broadcasting. One of his jobs, for which he was locally beloved, was to call local sporting events, especially Lufkin Panther football games and important baseball games. In these recordings, Martin calls 3 Lufkin Panther football games in the 1950's and 1 Lufkin PONY Grad world series game in 1959.

Murphy Martin called this undated football game between the Lufkin Panthers and the Palestine Wildcats sometime in the 1950's.

On November 25, 1954, Lufkin and Nacogdoches high schools continued their longstanding rivalry in a game for the district title.  The Lufkin Panthers defeated the Nacogdoches Dragons 32-7.

In August 1959, the Lufkin PONY Grad team travelled to Springfield, Illinois, for the World Series tournament.  They won this game 2-1 against the team from Riverside, California, eventually winning the tournament to bring the World Series title home to East Texas.  Diboll's Bobby Ramsey was a member of the team and received good luck messages from most of the town's citizens.
