The History Center is happy to announce that the newly accessioned Report of the Angelina County Red Cross is available for research in person and online. This report details the organization's activities during World War I, when the county's citizens raised money and supplies for refugee relief, organized a canteen to provide refreshment for soldiers on their way to training sites, raised money for war bonds, sewed hospital garments for injured soldiers, and supported local servicemen with care packages and letters. The report includes a written history of the organization, lists of members and leaders, and photographs of Red Cross members and groups during a May 1918 parade through downtown Lufkin.
