On August 5, 2021, Sheryl Small donated approximately 31 photographs and 100 documents that help tell the story of the Frazier and Runnels families in southern Angelina County. Well-known African American members of the Boykin Community and students at the Vernon County Line School, the Runnels and Frazier families farmed, worked for lumber companies, worked as quarry workers at the Kyle's Quarry site now known as the Blue Hole, attended church and school, and raised several generations. Most of the photographs document Harrison and Mary Runnels Frazier and their 13 children during family celebrations. The documents serve as a record of business conducted by Mr. Frazier and his father in law, James Runnels. The History Center is excited to add this collection to our archives and is working to digitize the photographs and documents and they will be available online soon.
