The History Center is happy to announce that several new environmental history resources are now available on our website. The history of the people of East Texas is incomplete without the history of their environment and their interactions with that environment, and The History Center will continue to make as many of these resources available as we can.
The popular Houston Oil Company 1910 Timber Recruise maps are now completely scanned and uploaded to the collections section of the website. Click here to see the over 1100 maps and descriptions that give a glimpse at what the forests in the 10 Texas counties and 1 Louisiana parish looked like in the beginning of the 20th century.
In the middle of the 20th century, Southern Pine Lumber Company took stock of their timberlands, hiring consultants to produce timber type maps of some of their lands.
