Study Club Collection, The, 1945-2025, undated

2.5 cubic feet

The Study Club of Lufkin was formed on May 3, 1930, at the home of Mrs. N. D. Shand. Under the sponsorship of the Lufkin Historical and Literary Club, it became federated as a member of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs, Third (Magnolia) District. Initially, except for the club’s first president Mrs. A. J. Peavy, all club presidents were single women. This pattern continued from 1931 until 1937, when Mrs. Howard Trout became president. Afterwards, the position was held by married women. The purpose of The Study Club was to cultivate the social character and literary knowledge of women by studying and reviewing all forms of literature; from fiction to plays. This collection contains correspondence, miscellaneous records, minutes, and yearbooks for the years 1945-2025.
