Morales Family, 1960-2023, undated

1 folder with scans

The Morales Family originated in the Rio Grande Valley. They, like other migrant families, traveled around the United States as agricultural workers, picking and processing produce. By the late 1960’s the non-profit Manpower, Education, and Training Inc., operating as part of the Manpower Development and Training Act, began training workers for future employment in other industries across the state. Temple Industries, located in Diboll, Texas, took advantage of the program to meet the needs of its growing lumber business. The Morales Family took part in the program, gradually moving to Diboll in groups until by spring of 1970, everyone was relocated to Diboll. The family moved to Lufkin in 1972, taking advantage of better opportunities to work at Lufkin Industries, Texas Foundry, and create Casa Morales. This collection contains a newspaper, magazine, news article, and eleven scanned family photographs. Prominent family members featured in the collection include: Rene Morales Sr., Juanita Morales Aguilar, and Joe Morales.
