Hunter, James P. Collection

James P. Hunter, III served as a licensed funeral director for 56 years and was former owner of Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home in Lufkin, Texas and Cason-Monk Funeral Home in Nacogdoches, Texas. He was also founder, chairman, and CEO of Equity Corporation International, in Lufkin, one of the nation’s largest death care companies with operations in 38 states and 2 Canadian provinces. ECI merged with Service Corporation International in 1999. Mr. Hunter also served as a member and chairman of the Texas Funeral Service Commission. Cason-Monk and Oakley-Metcalf were merged into ECI in 1994. The bulk of this collection contains records relating to this sale.
