Fire Control Map Collection, 1928-1929

Two maps

The two fire control maps in this collection reflect the growth and changes in Texas’ fire prevention methods during the 1920s. By 1928 and 1929, increased funding allowed the Texas Forest Service to transition away from slow mounted patrols. Instead, patrolmen traversed the forests in automobiles, responding rapidly to reports relayed by telephone lines from observation towers or spiked trees.
