This is a 1948 map of the Angelina National Forest, one of four federal forest units within Texas. The black border lines show the legal limits of land which can be owned by the federal government within the Angelina unit, and the green shaded areas signify actual tracts owned by the U.S. Forest Service. This map, unlike later editions, still shows many of the abandoned logging railroad routes in the region, providing a graphic portrayal of the extensive logging activities during a time before modern automobile roads.
