African American History Highlights Shiloh Reporter

In honor of Black History Month, The History Center is proud to highlight several of our online collections that showcase the history of African Americans in Angelina County and honor the members of the African American community that have contributed so much to our community.

This week we are highlighting the Shiloh Reporter, a nearly 40-page book that serves as a history of Diboll's Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church from 1903 to 1966. It features many photographs of church members, trustees, and pastoral staff. It also includes a few photographs of Diboll's then segregated school for black children, including a faculty group photo. This document is an excellent glimpse into Diboll's African American community and its institutions, including the schools, churches, civic organizations, and businesses prior to the integration of Diboll's schools.

The Shiloh Reporter is available on The History Center's website and can be downloaded as a pdf by clicking here.
