 75th Anniversary of D-Day

In honor of the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, The History Center is happy to highlight several of its collections that tell the stories of local D-Day and World War II veterans. Our World War II exhibit is just a short introduction to our collections and can be accessed by clicking here. The 2005 Pine Bough Magazine commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the end of World War II and contained the photos and memories of many local World War II veterans, including several from D-Day and Normandy, including John Taylor. That issue is available for PDF download by clicking here. And finally, researchers can look at digitized collections including the Angelina County World War II Tribute Book, the Nacogdoches County World War II Tribute Book, and collections contributed by Gayle Cruthirds, Frank Devereaux, Steve Waley, and Ben Weber, as well as a special edition of the Lufkin Line. We have had the privilege of interviewing many World War II Veterans, and their interviews are available in our online oral history collection. Some of those veterans who recounted their World War II stories to us were Ben Weber, John Booker, Bill Lindsey, Frank Deveraux, John Powers, Vivian Holt, and Jack Warner.

The History Center staff is forever grateful for the men and women who have served our country and is honored to tell their stories and preserve their memories.
