The
History Center invites you to visit us in
person, whether you come alone or with a group.
We offer an inviting atmosphere to perform
research, enjoy our exhibits, and learn more
about the history of East Texas.
Our staff is happy to provide free guided
tours for your group. Please call to schedule
your tour at least two weeks in advance.
Tours are tailored to each group’s
interest and age group and usually last
between 50 and 60 minutes. Highlights include
interpretive presentations of indoor and
outdoor exhibits as well as introductions
to the research collections and the theory
and practice of archival conservation. Indoor
exhibits showcase Diboll’s unique
history and encourage visitors to reflect
on East Texas history and the challenges
required for its preservation. Outdoor exhibits
include a statically restored 1920 steam
locomotive and 1948 caboose. Visitors are
encouraged to climb aboard these exhibits,
ring the fireman’s bell, blow the
engineer’s whistle, and experience
days of railroading past.
We are conveniently located on the east
side of US Highway 59 in the heart of Diboll,
Texas, approximately 100 miles north of
Houston in the beautiful East Texas Pineywoods.
Hours:
