The History Center holds many collections with wartime correspondence.  Some letters between soldiers and family members tell stories about events at home and conditions during training or while fighting.  Others inform local mothers about the condition of their sons and after their deaths, offer what comfort they can.  Volunteers at a Scottish hospital correspondence with Burtis Lawrence's mother during and after his illness during World War I.  Read that correspondence here to get a sense of one Angelina County mother's experience during the Great War.
