On International Women's Day, The History Center would like to highlight some of our Women's History collections and pay tribute to a few of the women who have made Diboll and Angelina County into the place we call home today. Among our many collections (there are more! spend some time on our site and discover them - these are just a few), our oral history collection is a great source for hearing the stories of our area's women. In particular, Margie Harrell, Fannie Farrington, Minnie Jones, Rev. Bettie Kennedy, and Rebecca Ordaz tell compelling stories about their experiences. The newly acquired and digitized Esther Pennington Ramsey Collection tells the story of a woman from Shelby County during the immense changes of the 20th century. Ellen Temple has made it one of her life's missions to preserve the history of Texas women, and her Free Press newspaper articles are great sources of information about local women.
Happy International Women's Day, on behalf of the staff of The History Center.
